NASUGBU, BATANGAS | FORTUNE ISLAND - Passé and Beautifully Ruined

Fortune Island

Fortune Island, to be found in the municipality of Nasugbu Batangas, became one of the most fitting landing-places for backpackers. It was a popular luxury island resort but has now turned into a humble destination for beach bummers and adventure seekers. Time might have depleted its fine beauty but the character still swanks dignity and pride; beautifully aged and wonderfully ruined, I say.

Acropolis Of Athens

The architectural structure of the resort was brilliantly patterned after the Acropolis of Athens; with Grecian Pillars at the topmost area of the island, providing you a 360 degree spectacle of the unbounded ocean and the mighty sky above. It has also become a popular spot for photography and prenuptial theme. Sweet.

a closer view of the pillars - rustic. and yes still beautiful. classic.

Fortune Island's shore is a mixed of white sand with traces of corals and stones

The island, although still a perfect beauty, can only offer you the sea. There are no accommodations; you can either bring your own tent or toss up a hammock, whichever suits you.  Otherwise you can opt for the shore as your bed; just set up a towel and get ready for a sand whip. There are no rest rooms in the area but with a little walk and a few tricks you’d be able to do it. You got to trust me on this, you can! Food and potable water should be on the top list in your itinerary as you will not find any store in the area. You may want to consider bringing a few gallons of fresh water if you wish to wash up after your saltwater dips.

Friendly Reminders

  1. FOOD AND POTABLE WATER | These should always be on your priority list.
  2. EMERGENCY KIT | Cliff diving and trekking may raise your adrenaline a little too high; medicines for these sudden events and a few band-aids readily available  for minor cuts are essential.
  3. SUNSCREEN |  Any type of sunscreen - lotion or mist;  with high SPF will be your best buddy.
  4. RECHARGE | There is no electricity on the island; make sure your gadgets and camping lights are recharged enough to last for a day.
  5. COMMUNICATION | Telecommunication signals are intermittently interrupted but are on full bars when on higher grounds.
  6. CAMP | Set up a camp site – it will be your haven.
  7. FIRE | Fire-starting supplies; whether for grilling or cooking, bring them with you.
  8. CAPTURE | Thou shall not forget your camera.
  9. THIS. | Beers and bonfire and oh! stargazing. Should I say more?
  10. CLAYGO.

Life's better in flip flops, they say.
Try barefoot, I dare.

How many times have you experienced to be on an open retreat? Away from the world’s perusal and unrelated to any deluxe or even basic privileges that you can imagine. How often do you realize that after a wreck, valor is born? That after a few strokes or stokes, bravery is formed. That maybe after the storm, the remnants are peculiar beauty and yes, pride. What are the odds of landing into these kinds of places, phases or faces? I do not know and yet I am excited. And maybe too, you get this kind of thrill once in a while, to see, feel or experience and imagine the life after the ruins.
