PANGLAO ISLAND, PANGLAO, BOHOL | Catch Some Zs Where The Sun And Waves Meet

Panglao Island, Panglao, Bohol, Philippines

PANGLAO ISLAND

Panglao Island, situated in the Central Visayas sea in the province of Bohol, is just approximately 45 minutes away from the city of Tagbilaran.
It encloses a number of beautiful beach resorts and tourists attractions – Hinagdanan Cave, Pontod and Balicasag. Quite a few number of mainstream destinations – Chocolate Hills and Loboc River; can be reached via habal-habal or a private vehicle. If you are someone who likes to be suspended in and within serenity, then I'd say that you drop the conventional spots and catch some Zs away from the crowd and somewhere where the sun and waves meet.

HOW TO GET TO PANGLAO ISLAND

From Manila

  1. Catch a flight via Cebu Pacific, Air Asia or any domestic Air Company which has a direct access to Tagbilaran Airport. Travel time is an hour and twenty minutes; fare depends on the availability and season.
  2. Once Tagbilaran Airport is reached, find your way out and try to avoid the airport tricycles for they charge tourists a little higher than what is usual. A good five minute walk from the airport would give you the option to choose a pedicab or a tricycle for only Php 15 - 20. Ask the pedalista (driver) to bring you to the jeepney/ mini bus terminal bound for Panglao Island; travel time is 10 minutes.
  3. Ride a jeepney/ mini bus bound for Panglao Island; travel time is approximately 45 minutes; fare is between Php 20 - 25. Ask the driver to drop you off to your beach destination - Alona, Dumaluan, etc. )
  4. Drop off points are usually a few meters away from the beach which would allow you to either rent a habal-habal for a minimum fare of Php 15-20 or you may also want to consider an unhurried stroll. Choosing the latter gave me a rewarding viewing of the marvelous vista of the place; you'd get to meet locals, co-travelers and see different animals - farm-bred and domestic; it was like you're up for a doorway and you are being gradually enticed to move closer.

VISIT | Bohol Bee Farm

Bohol Bee Farm, located in a quiet hill of Panglao, presents incomparable untroubled vacation experience. The farm, popular for its native organic food, boasts quite a few venues for rest and relaxation with the ethereal view of the ocean from the topmost part of the balcony. Day trip, inclusive of a 30 minute orientation on weaving industry, botanical garden and live interaction with bees, is charged at Php 30. The restaurant has a unique set of menu offering out of the ordinary ingredients - edible flowers and almost certainly all herbs and shrubs that you can find in their farm.

HOW TO GET TO THE FARM FROM PANGLAO BEACH

You can either rent a private car bundled with a variety of tour packages calculated on your liking and budget. Or, if you would just like to do a short trip to the farm minus the typical itinerary of the majority, then go for a habal-habal; fare is around Php50-100 round trip; travel time is 20 minutes.

Bahalina | Distilled coconut wine extracted from coconut saps, carefully aged for at least a month giving a honeyed-sourish sting. (Saktong sabit lang, pero may guhit :p )

All natural honey spread in different flavors sold at around Php 150 - 200.

Not the best shot and queen bee isn't here, so you can scroll down.

Homegrown herbs and spices to accommodate the farm's daily needs.

The flower does not dream of the bee.
It blossoms and the bee comes.

Yet another ingenious pride of the Boholanos.

WEAVING | A technique, or an art of braiding of two or more fabrics to create a piece of cloth which can be of many use - table runner, gift wrapper, bags any many types of ornaments.

In Bohol, weavers use the most possible natural dye from plant extracts to stain the fabrics. Weavers of different age brackets get support from the local government in the same way that private sectors are already starting to open opportunities  for this kind of industry.

EXPERIENCE | Panglao Island - Beach

Crippled shore of the island during low tide

I stand amidst the intimate sound of the sea and absolute sky,
thinking where to begin. Maybe, just maybe, here.

Different people with different minds in different settings,
all given with the same number of choices in different forms
and with different chances,
to reap different experiences for different reasons.

Rampa!Ikot! 360!Ganern! :)
